Lindisfarne Institute

Crestone, Colorado

Lindisfarne is a small educational center which serves as a meeting space and lecture hall for up to 50 people and includes a private residence. The structure is well integrated to site with a wind reflecting earth berm on the north side and a sod roof. The long southerly facade provides solar winter comfort and a greenhouse produces fresh greens year round. Sensitivity to site ecology prompted the use of local materials:standing bark beetle kills for beams and columns and local rubble for slip formed walls. The building is an example of a new generation of ecologically sound and resource conserving architecture.
